Universal Design for Learning at BCSC: From Theory to Practice
In this unique partnership, Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation (BCSC) and CAST have come together to present the theory behind Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and to highlight what UDL looks like in classrooms where educators have proactively and purposefully integrated UDL. CAST is the founder of Universal Design for Learning and the UDL Guidelines. BCSC has been a leader in the field, implementing UDL district-wide for over a decade. Participants will spend the first day discussing the core foundations of UDL with experts from CAST and experienced BCSC educators. The second day offers the opportunity to visit K-12 classrooms where UDL comes to life across all content areas and opportunities in the BCSC district. We encourage teams of educators, administrators, district leaders, coaches, curriculum designers, technology specialists, education specialists, and more to join us in this opportunity to engage in discussions about how UDL “comes to life” in practice.
Featured Presenter: Loui Lord Nelson
Loui Lord Nelson, author of Design and Deliver: Planning and Teaching Using Universal Design for Learning (Paul H. Brookes Publishing, 2014), has a life full of UDL. Part of her time is spent as the UDL Specialist for the SWIFT Project (School Wide Integrated Framework for Transformation) at the University of Kansas and the rest of her time is spent providing guidance to K-21 educators and administrators around the world about the implementation of UDL.
